Tip on Passing the ‘Life in the UK’ Test

Before granting citizenship to immigrants, every country ensures that they have adequate knowledge about the country’s history, culture and native language. The UK is no exception. If you are applying for the UK citizenship or settlement in the UK, then you need to pass the UK citizenship test, known as the ‘Life in the UK’ test.

The math for the test is pretty straightforward. There will be 24 questions and you will be provided 45 minutes to answer them. You need to score at least 75%, i.e. 18 correct answers, in order to pass the test. That means, giving seven wrong answers will automatically result in failure. You can attempt the test as many times, but for every attempt you need to pay the test fee again. Also, each applicant will be given a unique set of questions.

Here are a few tips on how you can prepare well for the Life in the UK test and pass it in the first attempt.

Start Preparation from the Online Resources

The first think to look for here is the official handbook for the Life in the UK test, which is available on the UK immigration website. Secondly, visit www.theuktest.com and practice sample test papers. There are 48 question papers available on the website. If you score well in the practice tests, then consider yourself well prepared for the test, since in most people’s opinion the actual test is lot easier than the practice tests.

Manage Your Time

You will roughly get about 2 minutes for each question. The questions you know by sight will hardly take a few seconds to answer. Skip the questions you find tricky and return to them once you have attempted all the questions. This way, you will have a lot of time to analyze the difficult questions, and or course, a better chance to answer them correctly.

Check Your English Vocabulary

Some questions in the test require deep knowledge of English vocabulary. It is often seen that people provide wrong answers only because their English vocabulary is weak and they cannot understand the questions properly. Therefore, apart from learning about British tradition and culture, it is also necessary to improve your English vocabulary.

Take Your Time in Answering Question

As mentioned above, to answer some questions correctly you need to have good English vocabulary. Additionally, take your time to analyze a question properly before answering it. There may be questions that have more than one correct answer. Understanding the real implication of question will be all the more important in such cases.

Additionally, before scheduling your test, make sure you have understood the process correctly and have prepared for it properly. Although, you can attempt the test multiple times, but it is best to prepare well and pass it in the first attempt. Knowing about the test and how to attempt it can be of great aid while preparing for it. It will also give you the confidence to attempt the test correctly.
