6 Things You Need to Know about Canada Express Entry

As the launching date of Canada’s much in talk Express Entry (EE) is approaching, discussions over it are reaching new heights. The new program will be launched in January 2015. It will handle the permanent residency process for migrants under the skilled workers category. Although, everyone concerned with Canada immigration seems to be talking about it for over a year, there still remain some essential points about the process that people are unaware of.

Here are 6 things about the Canada Express Entry program that you must know.

1. It will not be a First-in-First-out process

In Express Entry, all the applications will be ranked against each other before selection. Therefore, in Express Entry, unlike the current skilled-immigrants selection programs, instead of the first applicant, best applicant will get selected. Applicants with a job offer for a skilled position in Canada will most probable candidates to receive an Invitation to Apply for permanent residency in Canada.

2. It will only be for skilled workers

Immigrants, considered as low wage/skilled workers under LMIA (Labor Market Impact Assessment), will not be able to apply under the Canada Express Entry program. However, if the position at which you work is considered as skilled position under Express Entry, such as food service supervisor or retail trade supervisor, etc. then you qualify for the program, in spite of being on low wage LMIA status.

3. The online profile should only be created after language and credential assessment

It is advised that applicants have their language and credential assessment certificates ready before creating their profile and entering the EE pool stage. After selection at the pool stage, applicants will get only 60 days to apply for PR and with their language and credential assessment certificates. Failing to provide these documents will result in applicant falling back to the pool stage.

4. Incomplete applications will get reject automatically

Previously, Canadian immigration department CIC (Citizenship and Immigration Canada) used to allow applicants to update their PR (permanent residency) applications even after submission, in case they had provided insufficient details. However, with Express Entry in effect the applications will be filled electronically. And if during the evaluation something is found missing, the applicant will be moved back to the pool.

5. PNP applicants will be able to get PR in Canada through Express Entry

Applicants applying for PR in Canada under Provisional Nomination program (PNP) will be able to apply under Express Entry for quick approval. Currently, PNP applicants have to wait for 17 months for their PR approval, but under EE it will take only 6 months.

6. Selected candidates will be announced fortnightly

Every two weeks, applicants with most promising profiles will be sent the invitation to apply for PR in Canada, for which they will receive a time of 60 days, as mentioned earlier. Applicants who will not receive invitation to apply for PR within 12 months of entering the pool will have to re-apply.

Whenever something new is introduced, it is natural to have some confusion about it. But if you will keep these important points in mind, you will have less trouble in applying under Canada EE program.
